The latest episode of RIDE heads to the Royal Moroccan Federation of Equestrian Sport, which is hosting a training camp where the African youth teams prepare for the Youth Equestrian Games.
With the help of FEI coaches, the young riders are preparing for the Games, which are being held in Aachen, Germany from 28 June - 3 July.
A recent visit by a Ukrainian delegation at the FEI Sports Forum 2022 from 25-26 April in Lausanne sees additional initiatives and projects approved for funding by the FEI Solidarity Relief Fund.
Joint statement from the FEI and EEF
A webinar was held today for the European Equestrian National Federations and associated European Equestrian Federation (EEF) members to provide a comprehensive update on the situation in Ukraine.
Jointly hosted by the European Equestrian Federation (EEF), Ukrainian Equestrian Federation (UEF), UEF Charity Foundation and the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), the meeting included a thorough overview of the current actions and priorities in Ukraine, as well as an interactive discussion to establish the most efficient processes required to support the equestrian community (including the horses) in Ukraine and those who have fled to neighbouring nations.

FEI Solidarity Programme Application Process
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has been challenging for our entire community and is continuing to impact our actions to achieve our common objectives and help our members develop the sport using the tools and the know-how available through our FEI Solidarity Programme.
Most of our activities and projects in 2020 were put on hold due to the constraints imposed by the sanitary and health measures around the world as well as the travel restrictions which did not allow for in-person activities, courses and other events to take place and it looks like this situation will still continue for a while in 2021 as well.
Our willingness and commitment to fulfil our mission and assist our members remains unaltered, however to guarantee the best conditions and the quality of our assistance the 2022 application process has been reviewed.
Taking into consideration the fact that most of the projects allocated in 2020 and 2021 are still currently on standby, and consequently for the most part will be transferred to 2022, in order to provide quality and timely assistance to our members, the following amendments have been made to the application process :
The deadline to apply for FEI Solidarity assistance for next year is 1 July 2021. The Application Form and Procedure can be found here.
CALL FOR BIDS - Gender Equality Grant in Equestrian Sport
Following the introduction of the new Gender Equality Grant in 2020, we invite all National Federations with a project or programme aimed at promoting and encouraging gender equality in equestrian sport to submit their bid.
FEI Solidarity will grant CHF 20,000 to one specific NF project or programme whose main aim and focus is the promotion of gender equality on and/or off the field. This includes, but is not limited to, programmes in relation to governance and administration, athletes participation, coaches, officials, grooms, farriers, etc.
The project/programme to benefit from the grant will be selected by the FEI Solidarity Committee at its annual meeting in September. Interested NFs are requested to send their bid to Celine Starbanov by 1 July 2021.

FEI course for NF Secretary Generals and NF Administrators 2021
After the cancellation of the FEI course for NF Secretary Generals and NF Administrators in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are currently planning this year’s edition which will take place at the FEI Headquarters in Lausanne (SUI) from 4-8 October 2021. This FEI Course is once again organised with the support of the IOC.
The objective of this course is to support the FEI Member Federations in their re-structure, development and reinforcement phase by ensuring that each NF has a thorough understanding of the FEI administrative processes and the relevant Human Resources to manage and administer the sport in cooperation with the FEI and to deliver professional services to its members and stakeholders. The attached Syllabus will provide you with further details on the course content.
We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the maximum quota allowed is 12 NFs and two persons per NF. Of these two persons, only the Secretary General and one NF Administrator will be considered.
All NFs enlisted to take part in the 2020 course which had to be cancelled are automatically registered for the 2021 edition, consequently at this time we will NOT accept new applications.

On 31 March 2021, Jacqueline Braissant (SUI), Director of FEI Solidarity will be retiring following 29 years of loyal service. She will be passing over the reins to Jean-Philippe Camboulives (FRA), who will take up the new role on 1 April 2021. He will be building on the great legacy Jacqueline leaves behind, having worked closely with many National Federation members on their various development objectives and structures for the past 10 years as Development Officer within the Department and technical advisor for FEI Solidarity projects.
Jacqueline Braissant has been at the heart of the FEI’s development initiatives from the day she started. Her FEI journey began in the FEI Dressage department in 1992 working on the FEI Dressage Challenge, among other responsibilities, until she was handpicked to be a part of a “development project” in 1997, which would eventually lead to the hugely successful FEI Coach Education Programme.
Following the election of HRH Princess Haya in 2006, development took another leap at the FEI with the creation of the Development department, and in 2010 a "Development Task Force" to assess the work accomplished within the Department and to formulate ways to enhance and restructure the development services and offering of the FEI. This would lead to the launch of FEI Solidarity in 2011, with the four pillars Athlete, Coach, National Federation, and Values; a geographically representative Solidarity Committee chaired by the FEI President; and, a robust development programme which continues to grow in scope and influence.
“FEI Solidarity has had an important impact on the equestrian landscape, and has provided opportunities for many new nations to develop and build an equestrian infrastructure and sport base.
“Jacqueline has been instrumental in this process. She has always focussed on a sustainable development and a formula which is centred around giving the tools and sharing the expertise so that NFs can drive their own development process.
“It’s always been about collaboration, and over the years, Jacqueline has forged strong relationships with all the National Federations and has listened to their needs whilst keeping a keen eye on the future so that the sport can grow and remain true to the values of the horse world and the many individuals which contribute to this diverse industry and sport.
“She may be retiring, but her legacy remains, and we will all continue to deliver the vision and mission of FEI Solidarity wholeheartedly with a great new leader at the helm.” FEI President Ingmar De Vos

The Central American nation has become the first recipient of an FEI Gender Equality Grant, being chosen ahead of all other national equestrian federations! The grant is designed to support the organisation of courses promoting female participation and development at all levels of the sport.
The FEI will make close to CHF 3 million available in development funding through FEI Solidarity, including just over CHF 1 million through the newly created FEI Covid-19 Relief Fund for National Federations that have been severely impacted by the ongoing pandemic.
Unfortunately due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the fourth edition of the FEI Course for NF Secretary Generals & NF Administrators, originally scheduled to be held at the FEI Headquarters in Lausanne (SUI) from 12-16 October 2020, has been cancelled.
We hope that the next edition can be held in October 2021.

If you’re an Endurance athlete who’s offered the opportunity of a lifetime to study under pioneering coaches in one of the world’s great equestrian cultures, the 5,000-mile journey is about as appealing as it gets… even if you’re “not a big fan of cold weather”.

All NFs interested are invited to send an official letter of intent confirming their interest “in principle” to participate by Friday 15 May 2020, to Céline Starbanov. Should the number of registered NFs exceed the quota, a selection will be made.
