Injury Reporting

ONLINE INJURY REPORTING FOR A SAFER SPORT

Dear FEI Official,
The FEI has put into place an online person injury reporting system, which is currently available for Jumping, Dressage, Para-Dressage, Endurance, Driving, and Vaulting.

Online reporting makes it possible for the FEI systems to automatically alert National Federations when one of their athletes is seriously injured at an FEI event. As a result, National Federations will be able to check the athlete’s fitness to compete before entering him or her in another event. In doing so, National Federations can help prevent subsequent accidents and injuries, especially in the case of concussed athletes.

  • To make the system work, it is essential that you, FEI Official assigned to FEI Events as Foreign Judge/Ground Jury President or Technical Delegate, diligently and accurately report injuries as follows:
  • Continue to submit your entire event reports as you usually do, however please only use the online system to report injuries (NB: during the event, the form available page 6-7 in the FEI Doctor's Pack should be used to take notes. These notes will make it easy for you to later enter the information in the online system).
  • Ensure you have downloaded the person injury report on your device (laptop or tablet) while connected to the Internet if you wish to use it offline during the show. You will then have to be connected to the Internet again to submit it. Kindly note that hard or electronic copies of the person injury report (sent by post, e-mail or fax) are no longer accepted.
  • You will need to submit one (1) section of the report per injured person (NB: you will see that in addition to athletes the online form also covers FEI Officials; please make sure to report any injury sustained by these as well. We will look to extend this report to other categories of persons in the future).
  • Please record all injuries sustained by athletes and FEI Officials during the time of your assignment at the event. Injuries occurring outside competition time (i.e. during training) must therefore be recorded as well. The online form will allow you to indicate at what time the injury occurred.
  • Injuries sustained by Driving Grooms are reported on the Driver's FEI ID, clarifying under "Comments" that the injured person is the Groom and indicating his/her name.
  • If you have no injury to report, please open the person injury report online and indicate "No" in response to the question "Were any athletes or FEI Officials injured during the show?". This is an important step, as if this information is not recorded, the FEI will have to follow up with you in order to be certain that there was no injury at the event.
