I would like to draw attention to a few points which in my opinion could help to make the equestrian discipline dressage more accessible for a wider audience.
The first point regards the lack of knowledge of the layman about the dressage exercises. How can someone enjoy a sport if he or she doesn't know when something is performed well and when an exercise fails. My suggestion is to start each dressage broadcast with a short animation about different exercises like the piaffe and the pirouettes and to give information about some key points that one can focus on.
The second point regards to the price money. How do you expect that a greater audience will like the dressage, when we have a tremendous difference between our main equestrian disciplines. So was the price money during the latest World cup finals as follow: First place of the freestyle 56000 euros whereas the fist place of the showjumping was 172500. A difference of 116500 more than 200% ! To strengthen my argument, the 5th place of the showjumping final was 52500 almost as much as the first place of the Freestyle.
The third point regards the feedback that the audience would like to give, of which especially at the European competitions are told not to. So did the American spectators during the World Cup Finals loved to applause during the test. Perhaps that riders (myself included) can train our horses in a way that they become more familiar with the sound of applause. I think that this will lead to a more pleasant atmosphere.
