New dates for Tokyo 2020 Olympic & Paralympic Games

As you will have seen earlier, the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee, the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Government of Japan today agreed new dates for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in 2021. The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will run from 23 July to 8 August 2021, and the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 will take place from 24 August until 5 September 2021.

We are happy to have the rescheduled dates announced so quickly and we will work closely with all National Olympic and Paralympic Committees, National Federations, Athletes, Organisers and relevant stakeholders to ensure solutions are found to minimise the impact these new dates for the Games will have on the FEI Calendar.

There was never going to be a perfect solution when it came to postponing the Tokyo 2020 Games, but the FEI is delighted that the dates have been set so rapidly and that we can now work towards that end goal together. As a community, we will have to overcome and find creative solutions when it comes to adjusting the 2021 calendar, which includes a number of Championships and hundreds of events.

We will immediately start applying the new dates to all future planning, particularly through the new discipline-specific task forces which are starting work this week, and will keep you informed every step of the way.
