The FEI Board held a teleconference on 2 May. The Vaulting resolution taken on this occasion is listed below.

Vaulting Qualification for 2024 Championships – Rules Change Proposal

The Board agreed to proposed modifications to the Qualification System for the FEI Vaulting Championships 2024 to include a qualification requirement for Squads and Horses. This proposal is the result of a survey conducted on the future on the discipline ahead of the online Vaulting Forum, held in February 2023, followed by discussions between the Chairs of the FEI Vaulting Committee and the EEF Working Group Vaulting.

The FEI will share the new Qualification System with the National Federations and Stakeholders before the remaining FEI Vaulting Rules modification proposals are published on 28 June 2023, and with the clarification that such changes would only apply if the proposed rule changes to the FEI Vaulting Rules are accepted by the FEI General Assembly 2023. The proposal will be communicated at an earlier stage because the qualification period for the FEI Vaulting Championships 2024 started on 1 January 2023.

    FEI Vaulting Seminar 2022

During the sunny weekend of 21 -23 October 2022, the vaulting world turned its focus on to the Annual in-person Seminar in Rome, Italy.

Not far from 50 participants worldwide met to discuss the recent amendments to the Vaulting Rules and Guidelines 2023 and the Future of the Vaulting discipline.

Participants also received important information during dedicated sessions on Education, by Frank Spadinger, FEI Director Education & Officials, on Legal aspects from Áine Power, FEI Deputy Legal Director and a more general FEI update from and the Director of Vaulting, Bettina de Rham.

The Vaulting Rules underwent a full revision in the edition 2022 and only a few amendments/fixes are proposed to the Vaulting Rules for 2023.

FEI General Assembly (GA) will approve the Rules on 13th November 2022 at the GA in Cape Town (RSA). The approved Rules will be published on the FEI website by the end of November 2022.

Most of the sessions, presented by Members of the Vaulting Technical Committee (VTC)*, were dedicated to the implementation of the new judging methodology using Reference scores and to the description of the compulsory and technical test exercises. Fruitful and very beneficial discussions during all Guidelines sessions were taken into consideration by VTC and presented at the Conclusion session. All agreed amendments will be implemented in the Guidelines 2023.

The 2023 Guidelines will be published on the FEI website by the end of November 2023.

The VTC also shared with the participants the outcomes of the Testing of the Free Test Concept. The Free Test Concept working group presented a reworked concept based on the feedback from the Testing phase. The working group will continue on the project, and another test will be conducted in 2023.

The idea and concept of the Catalogue for the Technical Test exercises** was very well received. The VTC got support from the participants to continue working on this project and implement it into the Guidelines once ready.

One of the last sessions was dedicated to the analysis of the Degree of Difficulty (DoD) score and possible solutions in regard to the DoD. The VTC will organise a separate online session for FEI judges to continue the work on this topic.

An important session about the discipline's future was the Seminar's highlight. The main focus of the discussion was the Squad category, the welfare of the horse, and possible solutions that could be implemented in the rules/guidelines in regards to these points.

The VTC and FEI want to thank all participants for their engagement and valuable input in all sessions, as well as the NF ITA for organising this fantastic Seminar and giving the vaulting community this great opportunity to meet, talk and discuss these important topics.

*VTC Members: Pavla Krauspe (Chair), Rob de Bruin (Deputy), Anita Flamand, Isabelle Parker, Dietmar Otto,
