Welcome from Sabrina Ibáñez, FEI Secretary General
Welcome to the FEI Endurance Forum 2017 platform.
Endurance is the FEI’s second largest discipline after Jumping and for many years was also one of the FEI’s fastest growing discipline. This growth coupled with the size and scope of the discipline requires the FEI and the Endurance Community to keep a very watchful eye on trends and developments so that we can address the challenges and plan for the future in order to safeguard the integrity of the sport and the welfare of the horse.
The Endurance Forum 2017 aims to do just this. On day 1, we will begin by addressing, sharing and discussing current veterinary concerns in terms of injuries and bone fatigue and presenting statistics, findings and studies from world renowned experts. One of the FEI’s key roles is to protect the welfare of the horse, and we see our education system our Officials and our rules as crucial in this process. As a result, we have devoted sessions 2 and 3 to the new Endurance Education System for Endurance Officials and the key themes from the proposed Endurance Rules modifications for 2018.

Following what is going to be a very busy schedule on day 1 which also includes a gala dinner, day 2 will focus on the future and different perspectives as to how we can best promote and modernise the sport. We will end the Endurance Forum with a farewell lunch and hopefully a lot food for thought and consensus on the way forward.
For over five years now, we have hosted the FEI Sports Forum annually as a platform to consult and dialogue with the community and ensure that we are making the right decision for the future of the sport – and I see this dedicated Endurance Forum very much in the same vein. There has been a lot of concern on the state of Endurance recently, and in order to instil and drive change, we need to work together and be united in our goals for the sport and the future of the sport.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Spanish Federation and in particular Javier Revuelta and Venancio Garcia Ovies for hosting this important event. I would also like to extend our sincere thanks to all the speakers and experts from various fields who have accepted our invitation and will be joining us in order to make this a truly representative Forum.
All the relevant information on the sessions, logistics and registration can be found on this dedicated platform. I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Welcome from Javier Revuelta, President of the Real Federación Hípica Española
We are pleased to invite you to participate in the next FEI ENDURANCE FORUM that will be held in Vic, Barcelona, Spain on 23- 24 May 2017. I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all the participants and the FEI for giving us this opportunity. Since the old times of International Endurance meetings in Spain (1990’s in Jerez de la Frontera and 2000 in Madrid) we have had the pleasure to contribute to the growth of this awesome equestrian discipline. On this new occasion Vic has been the chosen city to organise this Forum. Vic is one of the areas in Europe with the biggest concentration of Endurance ride professionals, such as, trainers, breeders, riders, horses and many others, so I believe it is the right place to hold this Forum. I am sure Vic and the area, Osona, will transmit its Endurance tradition and passion, to all the long - distance riding lovers that come from many places around the world. |

Endurance is facing big new challenges, and we are happy to host you, and try to provide you with some tools that will help us to grow and improve. The next 5/10 years would be crucial for the development of our sport as it has happened in the last 20 years, with the big movements that make big steps towards professionalism and constantly growing worldwide. We should focus on laying the foundations for the future, with the big challenges and new projects that we are facing. It’s time to set up the standards and principles for the new generations to come. I hope you enjoy your stay in Spain and the topics discussed in the Forum are of interest for you, your National Federations, the FEI and Endurance ride lovers. Sincerely yours, Javier Revuelta |
