THERAPEUTIC USE EXEMPTIONS (TUE) FOR THE ATHLETES COMPETING IN TRYON 2018
Dear Athlete,
The following information applies to you if you aim to participate in the FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2018 in Tryon.
As an athlete who is subject to doping control (testing), you must ensure that you do not use anything that is included in the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)’s List of Prohibited Substances and Methods (“the List”). If you have an illness or condition that requires the use of a substance that is included in the List, and no alternative is available, you must apply to the FEI for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) giving you the authorisation to take the required medicine. If you use the substance without having received a corresponding TUE, and are tested, you will be liable in case of a positive finding.
TUE applications are examined by the FEI TUE Committee in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)’s Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions. Obtaining a TUE can take a few weeks, as the FEI TUE Committee cannot examine an application before all appropriate medical documentation is submitted. Therefore, please follow the steps below to make sure that you will not run into trouble while in Tryon.
1. BEFORE ARRIVING IN TRYON
Please apply for any new TUE/TUE recognition by 6 August 2018, making sure to submit appropriate medical documentation.
2. WHILE IN TRYON
TUE applications can be submitted on site for emergency treatments, using one of the following forms:
- WEG Tryon Standard TUE Application form
- WEG Tryon TUE Application form for Narcotics use
Printed copies of the forms will also be available on-site at the FEI office. Once completed, applications must be brought to the FEI office for the attention of the Legal Director/Deputy Legal Director. If needed the FEI Chief Medical Officer will be available to discuss treatment options with your doctor.
Please avoid relying on the onsite procedure for ongoing treatments, as these require adequate medical documentation which can take time to put together. As a result, the FEI TUE Committee may not be able to issue a decision quickly.
