Dr Bo Helander (SWE)

FEI Secretary General from 1996-2005 and Head of FEI Legal Dept 1995-1996

Dr Helander was born on 26 March 1943 and speaks Swedish, English, Danish, Norwegian, French, Russian and German fluently. Before becoming FEI Secretary General, he undertook legal studies, subsequently becoming professor of private law at the University of Stockholm, and consultant to several Swedish law-firms. He also worked for the legal department of EFTA in Geneva (SUI) and was Prosecutor and assistant judge in Stockholm. With regards to equestrian activities, Dr Helander was successful in Jumping, and is still active in racing, training and breeding. He was involved in the organisation of the Stockholm Show, part of the Organising Committee of Djursholm, FEI World Equestrian Games™ 1990, as well as the Breeding and Young Horses Championships. He is also a Course Designer as well as International Official Judge and Course Director.
