Launch of the Equine Influenza Vaccination Module in the FEI HorseApp

We are pleased to announce the upcoming launch of the Equine Influenza vaccination module on the FEI HorseApp, which will be available to all users as of 3 February 2025.

Following the approval of the FEI Veterinary Regulations 2025 at the FEI General Assembly in Abu Dhabi on 13 November 2024, the new module will align with the modification of the regulations. It will allow the registration of equine influenza vaccination details on the FEI HorseApp for all FEI Horses.

OVERVIEW OF THE VACCINATION PROCESS AND MODULE FEATURES
The equine influenza vaccination module on the FEI HorseApp will enable vaccination details to be recorded in a fully digital format, in addition to being recorded in the Horse’s Passport.

  1. Vaccination recording
    • Any equine influenza vaccination administered to an FEI Horse will be registered on the FEI HorseApp by the administering veterinarian.
    • Vaccination details must be entered on the same day the vaccine is administered, including the vaccine name and batch number.
    • If the Horse receives a vaccination against equine influenza and does not have any vaccination history registered on the FEI HorseApp, historical vaccination details can be recorded on the FEI HorseApp by the veterinarian or anyone associated with this Horse.
    • Other vaccinations are not concerned by this process, it applies only for Equine Influenza vaccinations
  2. Data accuracy
    • Any vaccination details recorded on the FEI HorseApp will go through a verification process to ensure the data is accurate.
  3. Access for Veterinarians
    • Licensed veterinarians, including those not registered with the FEI, will be able to record vaccination details after completing an e-learning module, lasting approximately 10 minutes.
  4. Vaccination verification during the Examination on Arrival at FEI Events
    • During the Examination on Arrival at FEI Events, the FEI Official Veterinarians will be able to easily view each Horse’s vaccination status directly on the FEI HorseApp at the same time they verify the Horse Health Requirements.
  5. Notifications system
    • Automatic reminders before vaccinations lapse and information notifications will be sent to Persons Responsible (PRs) and Horse owners to ensure Horses meet the necessary vaccination requirements.

TIMELINE FOR ROLLOUT

03 February 2025:

  • Official launch of the vaccination module.
  • From this date, it will start to be mandatory for equine influenza vaccinations to be recorded on the FEI HorseApp in addition to the Horse’s Passport, as per the updated FEI Veterinary Regulations. The roll out will be progressive according to the historical vaccination details entered on the FEI HorseApp.

February to December 2025:
Historical vaccination details will be progressively entered on the FEI HorseApp through different ways:

  • FEI HorseApp users will be invited to enter the last vaccination details of their Horse(s) directly from the home page of the FEI HorseApp.
  • Vaccinating veterinarians will enter historical vaccination details on request of the PR/Owner when administering the Horse’s next vaccination.

COMMUNICATION WITH ATHLETES
The FEI will contact all Athletes already registered for 2025 to inform them about this new requirement. However, we encourage you, as National Federations, to share this important update with your Athletes. We will continue to inform newly registered Athletes throughout the year.

COMMUNICATION WITH VETERINARIANS
The FEI is contacting all veterinarians registered with the FEI directly. There are other practising veterinarians in your country that are not FEI Veterinarians and who will have to follow those new requirements when vaccinating Horses that are competing at FEI level. In case you have national lists of veterinarians, we would appreciate if you could share the content of this communication with them.
