Over 250 ponies took part in the championship. Germany keeps its title

The FEI World Combined Pony Driving Championship was held from 15 to 17 July in Catton Hill (GBR) and was a great success. The weather was wonderful and the competition of a very high standard.

Over 250 ponies took part in the single, pair and four-in-hand competitions to decide the individual and team medals (see www.catton-hall.com for full results)

Hot favourites Germany and the Netherlands earned the team gold and silver respectively, followed by Great Britain. Title holder Germany took an early lead thanks to the beautiful dressage tests of Stefen Abicht and Franz-Josef Lehmkuhl. The weather, which was extremely hot on the first days cooled down right on time for the marathon, which saw a consistent German team keeping the lead of the championship.

Mr Richard Nicoll, Chairman of the FEI Driving Committee and Technical Delegate at the World Championships, commented “the friendly competitive atmosphere and the high standard of competition is a credit to the sport and contributed to a very successful Championship in the picturesque grounds of the Catton Hall parkland.”

The FEI Driving Committee Meeting was also held at Catton Hall following the Championships.
