Chief Executive Officer of the Equestrian Company appointed

The Equestrian Committee (Hong Kong) of Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (the Equestrian Committee) at its meeting on 5 October 2005 agreed to set up an executive body – Equestrian Events (Hong Kong) of the XXIX Olympiad Company Limited (the Equestrian Company) – and to recruit a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) through an open exercise.

The post of the CEO was advertised locally and internationally through the printed media and internet websites, as well as promulgated in the Federation Internationale Equestre’s official website.

After a very careful deliberation process, the selection panel set up specifically for the recruitment exercise recommended the Board of the Equestrian Company to appoint Mr Lam Woon-kwong as the CEO. Subsequently, Mr Lam accepted the appointment.

Prior to the appointment to the Equestrian Company, Mr Lam, 54, had served Hong Kong as an Administrative Officer since 1974 (with senior positions including Deputy Director, Regional Services Department from October 1989 to September 1991; Deputy Secretary for the Civil Service from September 1991 to February 1993; Deputy Secretary for Education and Manpower from March 1993 to December 1994 and Director of Education from December 1994 to January 1996).

Mr Lam became Secretary for the Civil Service in February 1996 and was appointed a principal official in July 1997 before taking up the position as Secretary for Home Affairs in July 2000.

Mr Lam left the civil service to assume the post as the Director of the Chief Executive’s Office in July 2002 and left on his own accord for personal reasons in January 2005.
