Host to the Final for the second time, the Southern family went to great lengths to ensure the event was a tremendous success for the thirty-two riders having qualified through qualifying events held in their own countries.
The sixteen foreign riders that qualify are provided with horses by another sixteen qualified host nation riders.
The 2006 Final provided moments of great excitement with riders from AUS/BEL/BRA/CHI/COL/GER/NZL/RUS/RSA/UAE/USA having made it to Spruce Meadows.
The week saw some very fine riding from our young athletes all keen to secure a place in the Final Competition on the Saturday.
Individual
The Warm Up competition was won by Rene Schencking (GER)& Hobson
The First Qualifier was won by Richard Neal (USA) & Rowan
The Second Qualifier was won by Guilherme Dutra Foroni (BRA) & Sunshine
Sixteen riders, from 9 different nations, made it through to the Final on Saturday afternoon. Making it to the podium were:
First - Taylor Bland (CAN) & Tango
Second - Ben Asselin (CAN) & Serrano
Third - Jake Krembil (CAN) & Caretino
Team
Riders are drawn in Teams and the Team Competition is based on the results of the First & Second Qualifiers. In First Place were Team Numero Uno’s: Ben Asselin (CAN) & Serrano, Olivia Hicks (AUS) & Samanna, Jenna Pearson (CAN) & Take Notice, Guilherme Dutra Foroni (BRA) & Sunshine.
Other awards included:
Style Award – Sheikh Ali Bin Abdullah Al Qassimi (UAE) & Magic Man
Best Horse Award – Tango (CAN) notably not a single rail down throughout the competition!
Sportsmanship Award – Jacqueline Steffens (CAN) & Eldorado 79
