De Boer took four-in-hand gold

As the Driver well in the lead after the marathon, Dutch Jan De Boer managed to keep his position in the cones and take the gold medal home. His fellow countryman Aart Van De Kamp Jr. took silver while bronze went to Thomas Köppen from Germany.

It was a close race between the four-in-hand drivers until last gate at the cones. Both Aart Van De Kamp Jr. and Thomas Köppen scored double clear rounds under the pouring rain, which put Jan De Boer under strong pressure before his entrance to the arena. However, De Boer remained poised and made another double clear round to the cheers of the spectators.

“It is fantastic to sit here as a world champion. Aart is a very good cone driver so I knew it would be difficult today, but we did it,” said a happy Jan De Boer afterwards.

De Boer had actually planned to start pair at the event but was persuaded to drive four-in-hand instead.
