In Memoriam: Tom Hudson (GBR) and Harold Preston (RSA)

A memorial service for FEI O Judge in Jumping, Tom Hudson (GBR), was held during the London Olympia Horse Show. Mr Hudson passed away on 1 August 2008 at the age of 67.

Born in 1939, Tom Hudson was one of the greatest characters in the sport. He commentated at top events worldwide and was regarded by many as one of the voices of show jumping. Mr Hudson was a founder and organiser of the British Show Jumping Association's stallion and mare show and a committee member for the London Olympia Horse Show.

 

Harold Preston (RSA), Honorary Member of the South African Equestrian Federation and a member of its Management Committee from 1966 until his retirement in 1998, has passed away. As the first Chairman of the National Show Jumping Committee, he was responsible for many of the rules still current today.

Mr Preston devoted a great deal of time and energy to the sport he loved and was able to pass on his considerable expertise. An FEI International Course Designer, he was a pioneer of Show Jumping course design in South Africa
