Hungarian team on its way to defend its World Title

The FEI World Driving Pairs Championship will take place this week in Salzburg (AUT). On Sunday late afternoon, the Title Holder Hungarian team had a meeting with the press before leaving for Austria.

Undisputedly best Pair driver in the world with six world titles and one silver medal, Vilmos Lazar decided to participate in the team competition only, for lack of really good horses.

Hungary's expectations could become reality thanks to the youngest member of the team, Zsolt Selyben. With his good grey Lipizzaners, the young driver will participate for the first time in a World championship. However, he has already a convincing career behind him with a victory in the Top Driver Award for Pairs in 2004.

Karoly Hodi has already participated in three world championships. He won the Driving Derby in Hungary this year.

The oldest driver in the team is Sandor Nagy (55), who has been working with his new horses for a month.

In the last ten FEI World Driving Championship for Pairs, Hungary is the nation who earned the most medals - 14 in total (from which 8 were gold).

In the twenty years’ history of the FEI World Driving Championship for Pairs, Hungary has always finished either on the individual or team podium or both, with the exception of 1985 and 1995.
