ROLEX FEI WORLD CUP™ FINALS - LATEST NEWS

The late withdrawal of French rider Eugenie Angot has brought the final total of competitors for next week's Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final in Las Vegas to 42.

Angot's mare, Cigale du Taillis, suffered an injury during the final qualifying leg at s'Hertogenbosch in Holland last month and despite every effort to bring her back to full fitness it was decided last Thursday that she should not travel. Earlier in the week Sweden's Malin Baryard-Johnsson got a late call-up when Austria's Thomas Fruhmann also pulled out, but there will be no replacement for the French rider.

Judy-Ann Melchior's mare, VDL Groep Grande Dame, did not make the official flight out of Amsterdam due to a late blood-test but the Belgian rider has made alternate arrangements so her horse is flying out independently to Los Angeles.

Please note that BIOGRAPHIES for competitors in both the dressage and jumping Finals have been updated on the FEI website wherever possible and you can check them out by logging on to www.horsesport.org. Some riders have been particularly helpful in allowing us to get to know them a little better - did you know, for instance, that show jumper Gavin Chester plays country music in his spare time or that fellow-Australian Edwina Alexander's first international outing back in 1996 took place in Hong Kong? (Could that be a good omen for Edwina's Olympic chances in 2008 do you think?) Belgian rider Patrick McEntee tells a great story about going into a mare's stable one morning to load her up for a show only to find her standing with a foal by her side while Germany's new young star Daniel Deusser admits to almost retiring from the sport very early in his career after one particularly bad day....
