Welcome to the FEI Governance Highlights section of the Annual Report 2021. As you will come to discover, it has been another busy year, filled with challenges and successes.

We had a rough start to the year with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and the unexpected outbreak of neurological EHV-1 in mainland Europe, forcing us to cancel major events like the FEI World Cup™ Finals. Thankfully, as we moved forward through the year, we were able to increasingly resume competitions under safe conditions.

In comparison to 2019, we were fortunate to experience memorable highlights in our sport again. Thanks to a huge collaborative effort between the Japanese government, the Olympic & Paralympic Organising Committees, as well as all International Federations, we finally saw the Tokyo 2020 Olympic & Paralympic Games successfully take place.

…And, after a bit of back and forth, we also decided to host European Championships in Jumping, Dressage and Eventing, even though this is not custom in an Olympic year. This definitely turned out to be the right decision as we got to witness great sport and crown new champions. Overall, 2021 might not always have been easy, but together we did it once again, and the sporting moments we got to be a part of were simply fantastic! As you will discover in this dedicated Governance section, we had a full on 2021 and I would like to thank all of our stakeholders for having been a part of all the challenges and the highlights.
