Great Britain reclaimed European gold at the FEI European Championships which Germany had had a firm grip on since 2011. Double clears by Tina Cook (Billy The Red) and Ros Canter (All Star B) were instrumental in the win as was Nicola Wilson and her mare Bulana, who also won individual bronze. Germany’s Ingrid Klimke became individual European champion for the first time with Horseware Hale Bob.

The FEI Nations Cup™ concluded at Boekelo in October. Despite New Zealand winning the final leg in the Netherlands, it was Germany who were crowned Nations Cup Eventing 2017 champions. Germany beat Great Britain by 80 points. Germany had contested seven out of the nine legs while Great Britain went to all nine. However, Germany’s five leg wins and a disastrous final leg for the British gave Germany the overall victory.

The FEI Classics™ was a series uniting the top end of the international Eventing circuit, namely the six four-star Eventing competitions currently on the calendar. Athletes and horses collect points at each of the events and a ranking is formed and at the end of the season, the five athletes with the highest number of points are awarded prize money.
Following the Eventing Committee’s proposal and FEI Bureau’s approval in June 2017, the FEI Classics™ Eventing is suspended as of 2018 for further review to integrate the new event classification system and to allow redefinition of a series concept.
