Para Equestrian is the ONLY Paralympic sport where men and women compete head to head and for the same medals.

The reigning Para Equestrian Team champions heading for Tokyo are Great Britain. The British Team have won every Paralympic Team competition since the sport was introduced to the Games in Atlanta 1996.

Great Britain is the most successful nation when it comes to medals, having taken 28 gold medals since Atlanta 1996 – seven in Rio 2016, five in London 2012, five in Beijing 2008, five in Athens 2004, one in Atlanta 1996.

Great Britain’s Lee Pearson is the world’s most decorated Paralympic Equestrian Athlete, with 14 Paralympic medals in total to his name - (seven Individual and Freestyle golds; four Team golds; two Individual silvers; one Freestyle bronze).

Saudi Arabia will be sending its first Para Equestrian Athlete to a Paralympic Games.

Since Para Equestrian first featured in the Paralympic Games, Jens Lasse Dokkan (NOR), who will compete in Tokyo, has competed at every Paralympic Games featuring Equestrian since Atlanta 1996.

Heidemarie Dresing (GER) is the oldest Para Equestrian Athlete competing at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2020. The 66 year-old is currently ranked fourth in the FEI Para Dressage World Individual Ranking for Grade II and will be making her first Paralympic Games appearance in Tokyo.
