WELLINGTON OPENS THE 2005 SEASON OF THE SAMSUNG NATIONS CUP SERIES
Nine nations competed in the $ 50’000 Samsung Nations Cup presented by CN which was held at the CSIO 4* in Wellington, FL (USA) from 9 to 13 March.
Great Britain, Argentina, Canada, United States, Switzerland, Mexico, France, Ireland and Belgium started sharp at 7:30 p.m. following a colourful parade of nations. It was the second time that the competition was held at night under the lights.
Great Britain was in the lead at the end of the first round with a team total of six penalty points. Ireland was a close second with eight faults, and Canada was in third with a score of 13. Tied for fourth were Switzerland and Argentina with 17 faults each. Sitting in fifth place was the United States with 21 faults. With 23 faults were both France and Belgium. Mexico incurred a total of 30 faults.
On the second round, Ireland’s Kevin Babington scored his second faultless performance astride It’S Morado. The team ended up with a total of 12 points to win the first Samsung Nations Cup of the season. The British finished in second place with 20 faults, followed by Argentina with 30 faults. Argentina leads the standings of the Samsung Nations Cup Series with 4 points. At the end of the season, the leading country of the Samsung Nations Cup Series is promoted to the Samsung Super League.
