Canadian show jumping talent Matthew Mulligan died at 25

IN MEMORIAM

One of Canada's most talented show jumping competitors and coaches, Matthew Mulligan, 25, died early May, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Matthew's competitive career started at a very early age, and he demonstrated his natural talent right away.

In 1995, Matthew, then only 16 years old, was a member of the bronze medal winning Ontario Show Jumping Team at the North American Young Riders' Championships held at Temple Farms in Wadsworth, IL. He returned to Temple Farms in 1996 to win the bronze medal a second time with the Ontario Team and improved on his personal performance by placing sixth individually. On both occasions, Matthew rode Starlight Express, a talented Grand Prix jumper owned by his father, Peter Mulligan.

In 2003, Matthew and his partner Nora Ross started a hunter and jumper training facility called Foxstone Stables.
