Lamaze Overtakes Lead in Canadian League World Cup Standings

Eric Lamaze (CAN) overtook the lead in the Canadian League of the FEI World Cup Jumping standings following his win in the $70,000 Grand Prix Jumping du Quebec FEI World Cup Jumping Qualifier held on 9 July at the CSI-W Blainville Jumping International in Blainville, Quebec.

Lamaze, recently named to Canada’s Team heading to the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen paired up with his WEG mount, the 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding Hickstead, co-owned by Torrey Pines Stable and Ashland Stables Inc. The duo topped the field of 35 horse/rider combinations, of which nine advanced to the jump-off, to earn their current total of 20 qualifying points.

Margie Gayford is tied for second place after enjoying an early lead. In the $100,000 CN Performance FEI World Cup Jumping Qualifier Grand Prix held on 18 June at the Spruce Meadows “Continental” Tournament in Calgary, AB, Gayford placed fifth. Riding Stuntman, a 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding owned by Shawn Littler, Gayford earned nine qualifying points at the "Continental", and earned an additional 10 after placing 11th in Blainville.

Also sitting on 19 points in the standings is Erynn Ballard who claimed third at Blainville. Ballard added 17 to the previous two points she had earned in the $100,000 CN Performance FEI World Cup Jumping Qualifier Grand Prix. Her mount for both classes was the 12-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding, Robin van Roosendael, owned by Looking Back Farm.

In fourth position is Lamaze's WEG teammate, Chris Pratt who has earned 15 points riding Rivendell. Holding down fifth place is John Pearce who has 13 points with Archie Bunker. For complete standings, please visit http://www.feiworldcup.org/wc_s/results.lasso

The next event in the FEI World Cup Jumping Canadian League is the $60,000 qualifier to be held on 23 July at the CSI-W International Bromont in Quebec, followed by the $100,000 Alliance Homes qualifier, set for 6 August at the CSI-W Caledon Summer Festival in Palgrave, ON.

Historically, the FEI World Cup Jumping Canadian League Final ended during Toronto's famed Royal Horse Show. However, the Canadian League has now been extended into the 2007 season and will conclude with the FEI World Cup Jumping final qualifying event held in the United States, CSI-W San Juan Capistrano, CA, from 4-8 April. The extension of the Canadian League allows horse-rider combinations competing in Florida and California to gain valuable points in the hopes of being one of two Canadian representatives at the 2007 FEI World Cup Jumping Final in Las Vegas, USA, from 19-22 April.
