Newcomer Hannover opens FEI World Cup Driving season 

The German Classics Horse show will open the FEI World Cup Driving Season on 6 and 7 November in the Europahalle in Hannover, Germany. For the first time on the FEI Driving World Cup calendar, Hannover can be pleased to have absolute top class competitors in their arena. Current World Champion and Triple World Cup Champion Michael Freund will start, as well as Ijsbrand Chardon (the Netherlands), Tomas Eriksson (Sweden), Jozsef Dobrovitz (Hungary) and Chester Weber (USA). The wild card is reserved for the German top driver Christoph Sandmann.

The World Cup season 2004/2005 consists of seven competitions. Every driver competes in three events. The top five after six events will qualify for the 7th event in Goteborg, Sweden. New this season is the dress code for the drivers and their grooms. To make the turnouts more recognisable for the general public, the drivers have declared different contrasting colours for their shirt, vest and cap.

The warm up competition in Hannover will take place on Saturday, November 6th at 23.10 hrs. while the World Cup competition is scheduled on Sunday, November 7th at. 12.00 hrs. The FEI World Cup Driving will be broadcasted delayed on German television channel NDR on Sunday, November 7th from 15.00 hrs. in the showjumping programme.


Created in 2001, the Driving World Cup has provided an innovative new style of competition for indoor events, with courses combining marathon and cone driving obstacles. The 2004/2005 season of the World Cup includes seven
competitions: Hannover (GER), Stuttgart (GER), Stockholm (SWE), Mechelen
(BEL) in 2004; Leipzig (GER), 's-Hertogenbosch (NED) and Göteborg (SWE) in 2005. The top 5 after 6 events will qualify for the 7th event in Göteborg. The winner of the first three editions of the World Cup was Michael Freund (GER).
