Ludger Beerbaum concludes 2004 as World No 1

With a total score of 2610 points, Ludger Beerbaum (GER) is back on the top of the podium of the FEI Gandini World Riders Rankings. In December 2004, he scored 100 points in Munich (CSI 3*) and 50 at Geneva World Cup. Ludger Beerbaum, 42, is no stranger to the World Number One position. In 2004, he was leading the world rankings in February, March, April, September and at the end of December. Before that, he was the undisputed leader from January 2001 until June 2003 when Markus Fuchs grabbed the coveted title.

Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) is in the runner-up position with 2530 points. He scored 100 points in Geneva, where he won the World Cup, 55 in La Coruna and another 60 at the FEI World Cup Qualifier of Olympia London.

Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum's reign only lasted for one month. The German rider who won the FEI Gandini Top Ten Final, supported by Rolex, in Geneva last December, is down to 3rd place. She dropped 205 points and only scored 140 in Munich, where she finished second of the Grand Prix.

Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum is followed by another German rider, Marcus Ehning, who stays in 4th place.

With 2338 points and only 5 points behind Ehning, Markus Fuchs (SUI) continues his progression and goes up 2 places, from 7th to 5th position. Having missed the first two months of 2004 due to injury, Fuchs had no points to drop for December 2004 or January 2005. He is therefore expected to be back in the Top 3 rather soon. Fuchs scored 130 points in La Coruna where he won two competitions. He also earned 90 points in Belfast where he finished 2nd in the Grand Prix.

Robert Smith (GBR) progressed to 8th place thanks to his good results at the FEI World Cup qualifiers of Geneva and Olympia and at Belfast CSI 5*.

Lars Nieberg (GER) is back in the Top 10 (he was 12th last month) thanks to the 100 points he earned at Olympia, plus 80 more in Munich.
