No worries for the future of British Jumping as their Young Riders leave little room for fate

It was a complete British landslide at the FEI European Jumping Championships for Juniors and Young Riders being held in Auvers (FRA) last weekend. Indeed, the British Young Riders were so impressive that 4th team member, William Whitaker, did not even need to enter in the last round. In effect, having accumulated all of 12 penalty points over the two rounds, the British Young Riders were safe with Gold and were well and truly ahead of the silver medalists, the German team with 26 penalty points and, the bronze which went to the Dutch with 30 penalty points. Yet it had not been so clear cut at the onset of the competition, with the Dutch and the British side by side with 8 penalty points while the German team remained close on their tails with 9 penalty points at the end of the first round while n 4th place, Italy stood already with 18 penalty points.

The rest is history as the British went on to a near perfect second round, with British supporters cheering on their golden squad who appeared on this day, to be in a league of their own.

The first ten teams:

1. Great Britain / 12 pts
2. Germany / 26 pts
3. The Netherlands / 30 pts
4. Spain / 40 pts
5. Switzerland / 42 pts
6. Belgium / 44 pts
7. Italy / 48 pts
8. Denmark / 55 pts
9. France / 57 pts
10. Ireland / 62 pts
