How to become an FEI Driving Official? 

All aspiring FEI Officials must have an understanding of English, both written and spoken and be familiar with the FEI General and Driving Regulations.

Application Process

Applicants must be licensed as national official in their country of residence and apply through their National Federation using the Application Form of the function they want to become.

The National Federation will proceed to the necessary verifications and approve or reject the applications.

Upon approval, the National Federation will forward the applications to the FEI Driving Department that will promote the applicants who have satisfied the requirements.

How to become an FEI Driving Official Level 2 Driving Judge? 

What are the requirements?

For appointment to Level 2 Judge an applicant will:

  • Have shown experience as a National Judge of highest national level by judging regularly over a period of at least 5 years, including as President of the Ground Jury at five CAN’s or have significant technical knowledge and experience, to be assessed and approved by the FEI.
  • Have judged at three CANs or, as a member of the Ground Jury at two CAIs in the current or preceding year.
  • Have attended and passed at least one FEI Level I Combined Course for Judges, Technical Delegates and Course Designers.
  • Be preferably under the age of 55

How to become an FEI Driving Official Level 2 Driving Technical Delegate?

What are the requirements?

For appointment to Level 2 Technical Delegate an applicant will:

  • Have had regular practice as a National Technical Delegate over a period of at least five years, as well as having acted as Technical Delegate at two CANs. Experience on Organising Committees, as well as having worked with a Course Designer is required. This requirement may be reduced if the Technical Delegate is a Level 3 Judge or a Level 3 Course Designer
  • Have acted as a TD at top level National Events during the current or preceding year
  • Have attended and passed at least one FEI Level I Combined Course for Candidate Judges, Technical Delegates and Course Designers
  • Be preferably under the age of 60

In addition:

  • Have a high level of knowledge and understanding of the FEI Driving Rules
  • Have an understanding of the marathon and the FEI rules and technical requirements of the course
  • Have an understanding of the marathon rules in connection with the Welfare of the Horse
  • Have a technical understanding and knowledge of how to measure a cones course
  • Have an understanding of scoring

How to become an FEI Driving Official Level 2 Driving Course Designer?

What are the requirements?

For appointment to Level 2 Course Designer an applicant will:

  • Have regular practice as a National Course Designer of the highest national qualification over a period of at least five years. This requirement may be reduced if the candidate has experience as an international Athlete.
  • Have attended and passed an FEI Level I Combined Course

How to become an FEI Driving Official Level 1 Steward?

What are the requirements?

For appointment to Level 1 Steward an applicant will:

  • Minimum age of 21 years old
  • Have qualified at an “FEI Course for Stewards”
  • Language skills as outlined in Steward Manual
  • To be physically able to carry out stewarding duties at Events
  • General attitude that mirrors the Stewards’ requirements
  • Recommended in writing by his National Steward General or NF, via his NF
