Each year the slate is wiped clean at the start of a new FEI Eventing Nations Cup™ season. Eight events set the stage in 2022, and the first win of the season went to Switzerland at Pratoni del Vivaro (ITA). Houghton Hall turned out to be a homerun for Great Britain as did Strzegom for Poland, Avenches for Switzerland and Arville for Belgium. The win at Le Pin au Haras (FRA) went to Germany, while the USA won the leg in Bromont (CAN). The season then came to an end in Boekelo (NED), where Great Britain took the win and Germany was revealed as overall winner of the 2022 season ahead of Italy and Sweden.

Arriving at the FEI Eventing World Championships in Pratoni Del Vivaro with already six team and five individual gold medals under their belt, Great Britain was clearly among the favourites for the title. However, the defending champions dropped from pole position to bronze following the cross-country, while team USA moved up from third to silver medal position. With three superb cross-country clear rounds, team Germany, previously in the silver medal spot, climbed into gold medal position.
On the final day, a total of 68 horse/athlete combinations started out over the Italian course designer Uliano Vezzani’s 13-obstacle Jumping course. Germany continued to deliver solid performances which would earn the team championship title for the third time in 15 editions of FEI Eventing World Championships. Unfortunately, Great Britain’s luck did not hold and they lost their spot on the podium, which saw the USA finish in silver position and team New Zealand in bronze.
There were seven qualifying spots for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games up for grabs at this championship and Germany, USA, New Zealand and Britain booked those along with Ireland, Sweden and Switzerland who filled the next three places.
The individual championship title found its way back to Great Britain through Yasmin Ingham paired up with Banzai du Loir. The pair accomplished an incredible achievement for their championship debut by taking the title ahead of no other than the individual Olympic Champions Julia Krajewski (GER) and Amande de B’Neville who won silver and Eventing legend Tim Price from New Zealand with Falco taking bronze.
“Banzai is s the best horse I’ve ever sat on and I don’t think I’ll ever sit on a horse like him again. He is incredible in Dressage, he has so much presence, he’s fast on the cross-country, he’s agile, he’s brave and then coming into the Jumping he showed everyone that he was jumping a clear round and there was no two ways about it! I wouldn’t want to be sat on any other horse.”
