Always aiming to provide National Federations with the necessary tools to develop equestrian sport and horse welfare in their own country, together with the help of experts in their field, FEI Solidarity has created two new Education programmes. These two new projects were announced in 2021, developed in 2022 and are set to be implemented in 2023.
More on the programmes is available here.
Developed as a result of the EHV-1 outbreak in mainland Europe in 2021, the Biosecurity modules on the FEI HorseApp have become a key part of the weekly workflow of FEI Events. These modules include a section for uploading EHV-1 PCR test results; and a number of features to facilitate the Biosecurity protocols and requirements at Events such as Examination on Arrival; Self-check-in to geo-localise a horse; Temperature recording (pre- and during Events, which can be consulted by all Veterinarians and assigned FEI Officials); a Horse Health Self-Certification Form; Sanctioning system (FEI HorseApp and FEI Database working in tandem to monitor non-compliance with Horse Health Requirements and automatically issue the relevant sanction); Horse Checkout on departure (mandatory for Organisers’ use) to ultimately improve traceability.
You can read up on all the statistics regarding the use of the FEI HorseApp in the FEI Governance Highlights section.
To help Organisers meet the highest standards but also to ensure the application of minimum requirements, a successful interactive session on FEI Events Standards was held at the FEI Sports Forum in 2022. This session focused on five key areas: security & access control; training & exercise provision; stabling provisions; event facilities & services; and cleanliness & biosecurity. Aligning standards at FEI Events is strongly linked to horse welfare and integrity and is crucial to ensuring the future of equestrian sport. More on this session can be found here.
In the framework of the IHSC-WOAH public-private partnership, the FEI has invested heavily in the creation of what should become an equine digital passport. The equine digital passport will monitor and guarantee a high level of biosecurity for FEI horses and Events by ensuring correct identification, control of biosecurity requirements and traceability. The equine digital passport will also allow for the safe and biosecure movement of horses, and will maintain the FEI’s credibility as a reliable partner with National Governments and with the WOAH.
