2020 – Together through the obstacles of a challenging year
…It all started as a normal year, Longines was proud to be a part of the exciting Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ season 2019/2020 as Title Partner, Official Timekeeper and Watch and it was with great anticipation that we looked forward to seeing the best athletes and horses in the world arrive in the magical city of Las Vegas, USA for the grand Final. Unfortunately, nothing turned out as planned, and due to the unforeseen outbreak of Covid-19, the event had to be cancelled … and this was only going to be the first of a long list.
For the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ season 2020, again as Title Partner, Longines was delighted to time the Nations’ breath-taking performances at Abu Dhabi end of February, before witnessing one cancellation after another right up to the Final, usually held in October in Barcelona, Spain.
A partnership, as every relationship, is made of ups and downs to go through together. Bound by a common passion for the equestrian world, the Top Partnership between Longines and the FEI first saw the light of day back in 2013. Since then, every year has been filled with thrilling competitions, emotional sporting moments, surprises as well as challenges. This last word is particularly true for 2020.
…But if this year had one merit, it would be to foster creativity and imagination. Unable to interact with the fans during events, the Swiss watch brand and the FEI launched a digital quiz linking equestrian traits to Longines’ iconic collections. “Horse o’clock” was also a great success and an activation to be proud of.
At the end of the year, Longines took part in a very special edition of the FEI Awards Ceremony. The gala too being cancelled, the winners were revealed online in a moving video narrated by British Paralympic champion Natasha Baker. This digital edition allowed Longines to celebrate Semmieke Rothenberger’s dedication to equestrian sports for the second consecutive year as she received the 2020 Longines Rising Star – Best of the decade Award. The young Dressage rider, who is the sister of Longines Ambassador of Elegance Sönke Rothenberger, was applauded for her determination, passion and energy.
Driven by its long-lasting passion for the equestrian universe, Longines looks forward to living many more unforgettable sports moments together with the fans, the athletes and its dear Partner, the FEI.
