Welcome to our World of Sport

Welcome to FEI World of Sport, a section devoted to thrilling memories and highlights of all the major competitions which took place throughout the year in each of the FEI disciplines.

The year 2020 was set to be full of sporting excellence and highlights in the equestrian world, with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games; World Championships in all the non-Olympic disciplines; epic FEI World Cup™ Finals; the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Final in Barcelona and thousands of other edge of the seat international competitions and events.

However, all of what was planned did not come to be, and like most of the sporting world, equestrian sport had to contend with large scale cancellations and postponements as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the sanitary restrictions around the world.

As a result, 30% International Events scheduled to take place in 2020 actually went ahead. Although a certain rate of cancellations can be expected on a yearly basis, it is fair to say most of the cancellations in 2020 can be attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Some disciplines were more impacted than others, with Driving and Vaulting both severely affected. Vaulting held just one international event in 2020 from an expected 139 (so less than 1% of events), while Driving saw 41 from 504 actually take place, so just 8% of events originally scheduled.

On the other end of the spectrum, Para Dressage was the least affected with a rate of 43% of international events held (21 from 49 originally scheduled) followed by Jumping at 34.5%, Endurance (33%) and Eventing at 32.5%.

Click on any of the discipline tabs below to find about the sporting highlights that should have been, the lucky ones that did take place and an array of pertinent statistics so that you can understand the full extent of the effect of the pandemic on the each of the FEI disciplines.
