When and where did you begin this sport? Her mother Thea Scholtens-Moerkoert has worked as a coach and breeder. She encouraged her daughter to try riding as soon as she had learned to walk. Scholtens began taking lessons at a riding school at age five.
Why this sport? Her mother ran a stable and Emmelie was a natural from the beginning. "Some people are good from the first moment. They feel the horse," her mother said.

"It's really a pity but there will be no Olympic Games for us. Desperado sustained a minor injury and the observation trials are just too soon.
