Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport? He began riding ponies as a child on his family's farm in Ashford, England. "My earliest equestrian memory is riding a tiny little black Shetland pony when I was very young, probably about four or five."
Why this sport? He was born into a farming and hunting family. When he was not doing farm duties as a child, he would ride the family ponies. At age 16 he had the choice of leaving school to start farming or beginning a career in jumping. He chose the latter option after Cyril Light of the Brendon Stud in Sussex, England, offered him a job as second stable jockey to jumper Simon Trent.
